Siliguri, 24th October: Siliguri MLA and West Bengal Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh, accompanied by the Police Commissioner, police officials, the Municipal Commissioner and other administrative officials, inspected several key roads in the city on Saturday morning to assess the post-Durga Puja situation.
The team visited various areas, including Hill Cart Road and Bidhan Road, focusing on the removal of Puja gates, irregularities during idol immersion and improvements to the city’s parking system.
Following the conclusion of the Puja celebrations, the minister directed the immediate dismantling of bamboo-constructed Puja gates. The concerned Puja committees have been contacted in this regard. Instructions have also been issued to remove hoardings and banners installed across the city.
Meanwhile, the administration has taken note of several irregularities reported during the idol immersion process. Shankar Ghosh expressed concern over overcrowded vehicles and instances of drivers operating vehicles while allegedly unfit to drive.
He also pointed out that during the immersion of an idol belonging to one of the clubs, the situation became so difficult that Municipal Corporation staff had to intervene to facilitate the process.
The minister stated that the issues would be discussed with the concerned Puja committees in the coming days.
