Siliguri, 03rd November: Tension ensues in the area of Ward No. 10 of Siliguri due to a land siege by army personnel. Today morning, for the security of the land, the soldiers of the army laid siege to the ground of the said ward. Seeing this the locals started gathering after which tension arose in the area.
Locals alleged that they have been living in the area for a long time and have been commuting through the road built on the said land for many years; which apparently is the only connection for the people of the area. Even the vehicles of fire brigade and ambulance ply through this route. After the step taken by the army personnel today, the people demand that an alternate route should be arranged in the area.

However, on the other hand, the army personnel stated that many shops have been built illegally on the said land. Therefore, taking such a step was necessary to preserve the land. Meanwhile, Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee, former councilor of Ward No. 10 Jyotsna Agarwal, and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh reached the spot as soon as the news of land encroachment was received.

Shankar Ghosh said that he has spoken to the MP in this matter. At the same time, former councilor Jyotsna Aggarwal said that there have been many agitations regarding the said land in the past too. Nonetheless, the matter still remains unsolved.
