Tension gripped NBU over ABVP’s 24-hour student strike, protestors resort to picketing

Siliguri, 27th May: Tension has enveloped North Bengal University (NBU) following a 24-hour student strike called by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The strike, aimed at demanding the expulsion and punishment of Professor Siddharth Shankar Laha in connection with a research scholar’s suicide, has led to significant disruption on campus.

Reportedly, beginning Monday morning, ABVP members have been actively picketing, closing various departments, and blowing horns to enforce the strike. Students are being sent home as part of the effort to ensure the strike’s success. The protestors are adamant about their demand for strict action against Professor Laha, whose alleged involvement in the research scholar’s death has sparked outrage.

The strike has created a tense atmosphere at NBU, with most departments remaining closed and normal university activities coming to a halt.
