Jalpaiguri, 16th August: Tension gripped Jalpaiguri on Friday as supporters of the 12-hour Bengal bandh called by SUCI in protest against the RG Kar incident took to the streets. Early in the day, SUCI members staged a picket in front of the Jalpaiguri District Court, leading to a confrontation.
The situation escalated when bandh supporters attempted to block the Judge’s car, prompting intervention by the police from Kotwali police station.
Reportedly, a scuffle ensued between the two sides as officers tried to disperse the crowd. The police ultimately detained around 40 SUCI workers, who were forcibly taken away in a police van.
