Temporary staff of NBMCH stage a protest, common people face difficulties

Siliguri, 21st January: In support of various demands, the temporary staff staged a protest at the North Bengal Medical College-Hospital on behalf of the Contractual Workers’ Union due to which many urgent hospital works remained pending. As a result, common people faced a lot of problems.


The protestors even warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met soon.
Workers’ Union Secretary Prasanta Sengupta stated that the cleaning staff receives only an amount of 7 thousand rupees and they receive no extra money for doing extra work.

As soon as the news of the protest was received, the medical checkpost and Matigara police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. In this regard, Superintendent of Medical College-Hospital Kaushik Samajdar stated that since the appointment of temporary staff has been made through the contractual workers’ agency, therefore the complaint should be submitted to the agency.
