Naxalbari, 06th October: Tea workers of Naxalbari Tea Estate staged a protest rally demanding payment of their due bonus, with the CITU and Bharatiya Tea Workers Union (BTWU) participating in the demonstration.
According to the organisations, the tea garden authorities have not paid the bonus despite the Chief Minister’s directive. The workers joined the protest demanding their rightful bonus.
The CITU and BTWU took to the streets to demand payment of the tea workers’ bonus. The protest was held along the state highway in Naxalbari.
The two organisations said the protest was not being held in the interest of any political organisation but for the welfare of the workers. They said people from different political affiliations had joined the demonstration to demand payment of the tea workers’ bonus.
According to the organisations, memorandums were submitted to Naxalbari Police Station and the Naxalbari BDO office. They also said letters would be sent to the Labour Department, the MP and the Labour Minister regarding the issue.
