Siliguri, 01st November: Naba Jagriti Sangha of Uttar Sukanta Nagar in Siliguri has chosen ‘Briddhashram’ as the theme for its 34th annual Kali Puja, highlighting the growing social concern of elderly parents being neglected and forced to leave their homes.
Through its pandal decorations, the organisers aim to convey a message that parents should not be abandoned during their twilight years and deserve care, respect and support from their children. The committee hopes the theme will encourage people to reflect on this social issue and bring about a change in their outlook.
Another major attraction this year will be a unique depiction of Goddess Shyama in the form of ‘Nataraj’, which, according to the organisers, is being presented for the first time in Siliguri.
Local artists from Siliguri have been involved in every aspect of the preparations, including idol-making, pandal decoration and lighting arrangements.
The Kali Puja is scheduled to be inaugurated on November 8. With its socially relevant theme and distinctive idol, the puja is expected to attract a large number of visitors.
