Siliguri, 16th February: The main accused in the Subhojit Modak murder case, Raj Paswan alias Kajal, was produced before a Siliguri court after completion of his earlier remand period. Tension prevailed in the court premises as family members of the deceased and local residents staged a protest during his production.
Police intervened after the situation escalated and escorted the protesters out of the court complex. The deceased’s family alleged that they were demonstrating peacefully while demanding strict punishment for the accused, but were forcibly removed from the premises. They further claimed that women were pushed while being cleared from the area.
Following the incident, women protesters raised slogans against the police outside the court premises. Sources said the accused was brought before the judge through the rear gate. After the hearing, the court remanded Raj Paswan to five days of police custody for further investigation.
