Students protest over quota system in Bangladesh, Indians returning via Fulbari Immigration Check Post

Fulbari, 20th July: Bangladesh is boiling over the ongoing tension stemmed from the reservation system as students are stirring unrest across the nation. Due to deteriorating conditions, Indians residing abroad are returning to India through the Indian Immigration Check Post in Fulbari.

According to reports, a massive government-opposed student agitation is ongoing in Bangladesh, resulting in internet shutdowns and indefinite closures of educational institutions, as announced by the Bangladeshi government. In response, residents from various countries including India and Nepal are traveling to India from Bangladesh.

On Saturday, numerous students and tourists were witnessed returning via the Indian Immigration Check Post in Fulbari near Siliguri. Among them were residents from Siliguri, as well as citizens of Nepal who had left to study in Bangladesh. Other residents from various states of India were also present.

One of the students returning to Nepal stated that the protests are more intense in Dhaka. Internet services are down, and a curfew under Section 144 has been declared. The student movement has escalated to the extent that staying there no longer feels safe, prompting their return. The students had to resort to making vehicle arrangements and taking rural routes instead of main roads.

Another resident shared a similar experience, mentioning that the protests are prominent in urban areas. However, due to the internet shutdown, communication has become difficult. As a result, the students were unable to contact their parents for several days. Consequently, parents are concerned, prompting their return home.
