Stray dog menace in Siliguri’s Wards 19 and 20, residents allege inaction

Siliguri, 16th February: Panic has spread across Wards 19 and 20 of Siliguri following repeated stray dog bite incidents over the past few days. According to local sources, a stray dog has allegedly bitten around 20 to 30 people, leaving several residents fearful and confined to their homes.

Residents alleged that Ward No. 20 Councillor Abhaya Bose was informed multiple times about the situation, but no concrete action was taken. They further claimed that when the matter was reported to the Municipal Corporation, they were told that the issue would have to be handled through an NGO. On Sunday, a child also reportedly fell victim to a dog bite, further escalating tension in the area.

As the affected zone lies between Wards 19 and 20, residents also approached Ward No. 19 Councillor Mousami Hazra. She stated that the location of the incidents does not fall under her ward and that the councillor of Ward 20 should take necessary steps.

In response, Councillor Abhaya Bose said, “As soon as I was informed about the matter, I asked an NGO to carry out the recovery. Due to some issues on their part, the operation could not be conducted yesterday.”
