Siliguri, 11th October: The Siliguri unit of the Special Task Force (STF) arrested a 22-year-old youth with 991 grams of suspected brown sugar during an anti-narcotics operation in the Gossainpur area on Saturday night.
The arrested individual has been identified as Md. Maksedul, a resident of Naxalbari.
According to the STF, the operation was conducted based on a tip-off. During the operation, the team detained Maksedul on suspicion and recovered 991 grams of suspected brown sugar during a search.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the contraband had allegedly been brought from Kaliachak in Malda district and was intended to be delivered to the Naxalbari area.
The STF arrested the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and registered a case against him on charges of drug smuggling. He was produced before the Siliguri Court on Sunday.
