STF arrests smuggler with crude black heroin worth crores in Siliguri

Siliguri, 12th February: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) foiled a drug smuggling bid and arrested a smuggler posing as a passenger. In addition, the STF team seized crude black heroin worth crores. The arrested accused has been identified as Sujit Biswas (26), a resident of Tahirpur of Nadia district.


As per reports, acting on a tip-off, the STF team halted a bus arriving from Assam in Fulbari on Sunday evening. Following this, Sujit Biswas, who was seated on the bus, was searched based on suspicion. During this, the STF recovered four packets of crude black-coloured heroin from his possession.

During the interrogation, Sujit Biswas stated that he had reached Tinsukia in Assam by flight to collect the crude. Subsequently, he boarded a bus for Siliguri and was scheduled to leave for Nadia to deliver the drugs.


According to information received from STF sources, a total of 4.769 kgs of contraband were recovered whose market value is estimated to be around Rs 2 crore. The STF revealed that Sujit Biswas’s role was of a courier and several other individuals are part of a bigger network

Meanwhile, the STF has registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the accused and handed him over to the NJP police station. On Monday, the accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court, while further investigation is underway.
