Rajganj, 28th November: An awareness camp on women trafficking and domestic violence was organized at Rajganj BDO office under the initiative of the State Women Commission, on Sunday.
It has been learned that the camp was organized with the assistance of the Jalpaiguri District Legal Services Authority, Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum, and administration. The members of the women’s self-help group discussed how to avoid women trafficking and deal with domestic violence. Besides, in the case of such victims, information was provided regarding where to contact and what facilities are available.
State Women Commission chairperson Lina Gangopadhyay said “ Women trafficking and domestic violence can be avoided if vigilance is maintained. If anyone is a victim of such incidents, inform the police and local administration.”
Amit Sarkar, president of the Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum, said that many fall prey to the cycle of trafficking and domestic disputes. Therefore, awareness camps are being organized at various places in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar districts on the initiative of the State Women Commission.
State Women Commission vice-chairperson Mahua Paja, member Devjani Lahiri, Rajganj BDO Pankaj Konar, and Rajganj police officials were present at the camp.
