Siliguri, 24th August: Various complaints concerning illegal construction and anti-social activities taking place on a PWD owned land surfaced from the city. The plot is situated next to Urvashi Cinema Hall near SF Road, Siliguri, in front of the residence of Ajay Chowdhury, a lawyer of Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench.
Apparently, Chowdhury filed a case in this regard at the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court. Following which, the High Court directed the PWD to demolish any illegal construction on the land. As per the instructions, a team of Self-regulatory organization (SRO) reached the spot today to take stock of the situation.
The team found 5 shops illegally built on the said land. As per the information, a detailed report in this matter will be sent to PWD on behalf of the SRO. Following this, work will be carried out as per the directives of PWD and Calcutta High court.
In this context, Ajay Chowdhury stated that he lodged a complaint after he spotted various anti-social activities being carried out behind several shops that have been constructed on the occupied government land.
Meanwhile, the traders expressed concern over the demolition of their shops and stated that it is their only source of income.
