Cooch Behar, 24th December: Acting in self-defence, a smuggler was gunned down by BSF personnel who fired in self-defence. This incident took place this morning in Ghosh Para village of Gitaldaha Gram Panchayat-02 under Dinhata police station area. The incident created a stir in the area.
According to the BSF officials, the alleged smuggler got into a dispute with the BSF jawan. When the person attacked, the BSF jawan fired in self-defence following the death of the man. The deceased has been identified as Prem Barman, a resident of Barbanda village of Gitaldaha GP-2.
However, the relatives of the deceased are claiming that Barman was a tobacco farmer and had gone to work on his land when the BSF opened fire. On the other hand, Dinhata police reached the spot as soon as the news of the incident was received.
