Siliguri, 27th February: Siliguri Municipal Corporation’s Conservancy Department organised a free Social Security Scheme camp aimed at ensuring financial protection for Nirmal Bandhu and sanitation workers in the city. The state government-backed initiative seeks to provide structured social security benefits to eligible workers.
The camp was held at Rabindra Manch in Siliguri, where application forms were distributed among sanitation workers. MMIC Manik Dey was present at the programme. He stated that the scheme has been introduced by the state government and the municipal corporation is extending full cooperation to help workers complete the formalities and avail the benefits without difficulty.
Under the Social Security Scheme, registered workers will receive a monthly financial assistance of ₹55 directly into their bank accounts. Additionally, in the event of the untimely death of a worker during service, the family will be entitled to financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh.
As per the guidelines, workers between 18 and 60 years of age are eligible to enrol in the scheme. After crossing 60 years, beneficiaries will receive monthly pension benefits.
Sanitation workers welcomed the initiative, stating that it fulfils a long-standing demand and will serve as significant support for them and their families in the future.
