Siliguri, 20th February: The salary of the city’s Safai workers has been increased by 10% from February itself, instead of March. Ashok Bhattacharya, the chairman of the BoA at SMC, requested the workers to normalize the cleanliness work from tomorrow.
It is to be noted that Uttar Banga Safai Karmachari Samiti had staged a continuous protest in support of various demands including pay hike and job permanency. Meetings were held in this regard. All the labour organizations urged SMC to be sympathetic towards the demands of the city’s cleaning staff.
Following this, SMC decided to increase the salary by 10% from February itself.
