SMC to close markets in Siliguri once a week to check spread of Coronavirus

Siliguri, 08th January: In view of the rising coronavirus cases, Siliguri Municipal Corporation has decided to shut down markets once a week for sanitization purposes.


23 markets have been included as of now. All other markets are likely to be incorporated into the list in the future.

As per the list the markets and their respective day of closure is as follows:


Monday- Champasari SJDA Market, Subhash Pally Bazar and Rathkhola Bazar

Tuesday- Jalpaimore Bazar, Town Station Cloth Market, NJP Gate Bazar, Tikiapara Bazar, Mahabirsthan Fruit-vegetable Bazar, and other shops.

Thursday- Haiderpara Bazar, Ghoghomali Bazar, NJP Station Market, Champasari More Bazar, Fish and Meat Bazar of Bidhan Market.

Sunday– Hawkers Corner, Gaurishankar Market, Hillcart Road, Hillcart Road Alupatti, Seth Srilal Market, Mahabirsthan Main Road, North Bengal Motor Dealers Association, Hardware Merchant Association Sevoke road, Bidhan road Vyavasayee Samiti and other markets except fish and meat market of Bidhan Market.

Biplab Roy Muhuri, secretary of Siliguri Greater Khuchra Vyavasayee Samiti, said that discussions were held with SMC. Following this, it was decided that markets will be closed once a week and emphasis would be laid on cleanliness and sanitization.
