SMC should stop needless politics and support the state government amid pandemic – Ranjan Sarkar

Siliguri, 14th May: SMC opposition leader Ranjan Sarkar, in an address to Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya, stated that the Siliguri Municipal Corporation must support the state government amid the COVID-19 pandemic and not carry out unnecessary politics.

It is to be noted that the term of Siliguri Municipality board will come to an end on May 17, 2020. Depending on the current situation, a new administrator will likely be appointed to keep SMC running smoothly. Meanwhile, speculations have surfaced in the city regarding Ashok Bhattacharya’s name being nominated in this regard. However, Sarkar expressed outrage over the issue.

On the other hand, Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya accused the state government of appointing an administrator in Kolkata without following the rules and regulations properly. He further urged the government to amend the law before taking such important decisions in the future.

However, in response to the above statement, Ranjan Sarkar claimed that everything has been done in accordance with the law. He further urged everyone to support the state government in such a crisis.
