Siliguri, 08th November: After the conclusion of Chhath Puja, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation has taken proactive steps to restore the Mahananda River to its original state. The cleanup work along the river has begun to remove post-puja debris from the water.
During the Chhath Puja celebrations, thousands of devotees gathered at the Lal Mohan Maulik Niranjan Ghat on the Mahananda River. Following the rituals, offerings such as flowers, banana trees, and other items were left in the river. This necessitated immediate action to clean the river.
On Friday morning, the MMIC Manik Dey, along with other municipal officials, visited the riverbanks to oversee the cleanup efforts. Dey stated that during Chhath Puja, about 80% of the municipal cleaning staff is engaged in the puja rituals. However, he emphasized that the corporation was committed to restoring the river’s cleanliness within two-three days.
