Kharibari, 19th December: The cops of Kharibari police station foiled attempted cattle smuggling and successfully rescued over a dozen cattle loaded in two pickup vans. Following this, six individuals were arrested on charges of animal trafficking. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Salam, Shiv Shankar Roy, Manjay Roy, Yadav Mandal, Hiralal Roy, and Sahadeb Banik. Among the arrested, three are residents of Bihar, while the other three are from Kharibari.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off, the police initiated a naka checking in the Singhia Jote area of Kharibari. During this, two pickup vans loaded with cattle were seized. Upon failure to provide valid documents, Kharibari police arrested six accused, including the drivers of both the vehicles. Following this, all 14 cattle were rescued.
On Tuesday, all six accused were presented before the Siliguri Divisional Court. Currently, the police are engaged in further investigation.
