Siliguri, 23rd February: Police have arrested the accused in the Sevoke Road hit-and-run case that led to the death of a youth, Shankar Chhetri, on 19th February.
The arrested youth has been identified as Debangshu Pal Chowdhury, reportedly the son of a petrol pump owner on Sevoke Road. Police confirmed that he was driving the car involved in the incident. Authorities are also investigating whether alcohol was a factor at the time of the accident.
Following the accident, CCTV footage related to the incident surfaced, prompting police to intensify their investigation. Officers examined CCTV footage from various locations across the city.
On Monday, the accident-hit vehicle was traced to a showroom on Sevoke Road, after which Debangshu Pal Chowdhury was arrested and brought in for questioning.
DCP (Traffic) Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed visited Siliguri police station following the arrest and confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody in connection with the case.
