Siliguri, 18th July: A young man from Siliguri fell victim to cyber fraud while ordering goods from an online shopping app, losing Rs 1.23 lakh. The incident occurred in the Rathkhola area under Ward No. 22 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The victim, 18-year-old Abhirup Roy, had initially ordered a watch and purse worth Rs 2,100.
According to reports, Abhirup placed his order last Sunday. Later, on Tuesday, he received a call purportedly from the online shopping app, informing him that cash on delivery was not available for his order, and he needed to make an advance payment. The caller sent him a QR code for the payment. Upon scanning the QR code, Rs 1.23 lakh was lost from Abhirup’s bank account.
Following the incident, Abhirup Roy filed a written complaint at the Cyber Crime police station. The cyber team has initiated an investigation into the case.
