Siliguri: Woman arrested in Matigara for alleged fake land documents and sale case

Siliguri, 28th May: Police have arrested a woman in the Matigara area on charges of preparing fake documents and selling land fraudulently. The accused, identified as Jasmin Khatun, wife of alleged land broker Mohammad Zahid, was arrested by Matigara Police and produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court.

According to police sources, in 2012 a woman had purchased 3 katha of land in the Panchkalguri area of Matigara. Later in 2021, she reportedly sold the land to another person. However, the buyer later complained that another individual was also claiming ownership of the same plot.

During investigation, police discovered that in 2024, fake documents were allegedly created in the name of Jasmin Khatun for the same land. It is alleged that the complainant’s signature was forged and another person’s photograph was used to prepare the fraudulent papers.

Police further stated that Mohammad Zahid, husband of the accused, was listed as a witness in the disputed documents and is already facing multiple land-related cases.

Following a written complaint from the victim, Matigara Police initiated action and arrested Jasmin Khatun. Investigation into the case is currently underway.
