Siliguri, 19th July: The Siliguri traffic police launched operations to detain e-rickshaws (totos) without number plates, on Monday. Hundreds of unregistered totos were stopped at various traffic points in the city. Also, the process of catching totos with TC number started on Monday.
Totos without number plates has been plying on the city’s main roads for several months, causing massive traffic congestion in the city. A few days ago, the city auto drivers started a movement and demanded that the unregistered totos should be stopped from plying on the main roads. Following which, the police and administrative officials held a meeting. Miking was carried out in this regard.
Hundreds of unregistered Totos and others with TC numbers were detained on Monday morning. Traffic police officials said that the operation will continue in the coming days as well. Police officials said that strict action will be taken if any unregistered Toto is seen plying on the main roads including Hillcart Road, Bidhan Road, and Burdwan Road.
