Siliguri Times’ News Prompts Action: Dirty garbage near Ambari Haat shifted

Siliguri, 24th May: Following the recent publication of a news report by Siliguri Times regarding the presence of unattended garbage near Ambari Haat, proactive steps have been taken by the Binnaguri Circle and Haat administration to address the issue. Local residents have expressed their delight with this swift initiative.

The area known as Kharkharia Haat, situated under the jurisdiction of Binnaguri Gram Panchayat in Rajganj, falls under the purview of Zilla Parishad. Ambari Haat, located within this region, holds a market twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. The market area also houses permanent shops and stalls. However, a persistent problem faced by the area was the absence of a designated waste disposal site. Consequently, the accumulated garbage was discarded near the market, causing inconvenience to nearby residents, as well as the two high schools and the sub-health centre in the vicinity.

Upon publication of the news report, immediate action was taken to remove the unattended garbage and relocate it to a more appropriate location. Tushar Kanti Dutta, a local resident and Deputy Pradhan of the Gram Panchayat, acknowledged the community’s frustration due to the foul smell emanating from the garbage. With the well-being of the villagers in mind, discussions were held with the Haat officials to address the issue promptly.
