Siliguri Schoolgirl Murder Case: MD Abbas pronounced ‘guilty,’ court verdict on Friday

Siliguri, 04th September: After a prolonged legal battle, the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court has pronounced MD Abbas ‘guilty’ for the rape and murder of a minor in Siliguri. Significantly, the court will announce the verdict two days later on September 6. Notably, the convicted MD Abbas has been found guilty based on evidence and witness testimonies.


The incident dates back to August 21, 2023, when a school student (pseudo: Abhaya) was brutally raped and murdered in an abandoned area under the jurisdiction of the Matigara Police Station. The Matigara police launched an investigation and arrested MD Abbas within six hours of the crime. Following this, the case has been under judicial proceedings as the entire city was fixated on the court’s decision in the hope for justice.

Previously, the court had scheduled two dates to deliver a verdict in the case, but on both occasions, the decision was postponed. On Wednesday, September 4, the court set another date for hearing and found MD Abbas guilty under several charges. The public now awaits to see what sentence the court will impose in two days.
