Siliguri, 23rd September: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police have begun strengthening security arrangements ahead of Durga Puja to prevent theft, robbery and other criminal activities. Police Commissioner Syed Waquar Raza urged people to remain alert and take necessary precautions while travelling during the festive period.
Speaking after a meeting on Durga Puja preparations, the Police Commissioner appealed to people not to share photographs or information on social media indicating that their homes are vacant while they are away with their families. He said such posts could alert criminals that a house is unoccupied and potentially facilitate theft.
Police patrolling will be increased across the city during the Puja. Meetings have also been held with ATM operators and major jewellery establishments to review security arrangements and prevent incidents such as theft, robbery and ATM-related crimes. Authorities have stressed the need to strengthen alarm systems and CCTV surveillance at such locations.
