Siliguri, 29th December: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has taken a new step to keep the city clean by preparing to install location-based QR codes at every household within the municipal area. The move aims to bring modern monitoring into the waste collection system and ensure greater transparency and efficiency.
Under the proposed system, the Municipal Corporation and the agency responsible for solid waste management, SUDA, will be able to directly monitor whether household waste is being collected regularly.
Across various wards, Nirmal Bandhus and a total of 124 women Nirmal Sathis are engaged in garbage removal. Along with their collection duties, the Nirmal Sathis visit households to raise awareness among residents, especially about segregating dry and wet waste.
To make the service more transparent and effective, QR codes will be installed at every house. During waste collection, the Nirmal Sathis or Nirmal Bandhus will scan the QR code, which will automatically record from which house the garbage has been collected and at what time. This will allow real-time monitoring by SUDA and the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
As part of preparations for the new system, a special training programme was organised on Monday in Siliguri, involving 105 women Nirmal Sathis from various wards. Supervisors of the solid waste management system, who have already undergone training in Kolkata, are currently imparting training to the workers.
Officials said that once the training is completed, the QR codes will be installed at households across the city.
