Siliguri, 03rd February: Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has named a road and an area in the city to honour a former educator and to give a distinct identity to an important administrative zone.
According to SMC sources, the road adjacent to Siliguri Girls’ High School has been named Amiya Sengupta Sarani (Road), in memory of former teacher Amiya Sengupta, recognising immense contribution to the field of education.
Meanwhile, the area stretching from Court More to the surroundings of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation building, along with adjoining localities, has been officially named Corporation Para. Municipal officials said the decision was taken to provide a clear and organised identity to the city’s administrative and civic hub.
The naming was inaugurated through a formal programme held on Tuesday, where Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb unveiled the new names in the presence of Members of the Mayor-in-Council, local councillors, and senior Municipal officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Gautam Deb said that naming roads and areas after personalities linked to the city’s history, education, and development would serve as inspiration for future generations. He added that systematic identification of different parts of the city is also a key objective of the municipal corporation.
