Siliguri Mayor and officials visit Chamakdangi village affected by Teesta River flooding

Siliguri, 04th October: Amid torrential rainfall over the past few days, 40 families in Chamakdangi, under the Dabgram-I Gram Panchayat, have been affected by flooding from the Teesta River. Following the Chief Minister’s directive, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, along with Jalpaiguri district council member Monisha Roy and other administrative officials, conducted a visit to the area on Friday morning.

According to reports, the downpour in the hills and plains has caused water levels to rise in Teesta and other rivers. About a few days ago, the main road leading to the Chamakdangi village was recently washed away. As a result, the residents had to vacate their homes and take shelter in a community hall.

During the visit, Mayor Gautam Deb and other officials distributed relief supplies to the affected residents. Mayor Deb confirmed that both situations in the flood-affected Lalton Basti and Chamakdangi have been reported to the Chief Minister. He further stated that administrative officials have already begun assessing the situation and that efforts are underway by the state government to ensure the safety of those affected by the flooding.
