Siliguri man detained on the charge of forcibly occupying government land

Siliguri, 20th May: The NJP Police, on Wednesday, detained a man, identified as Joy Singh Barman, on the charge of forcibly occupying a government land and also carrying out construction work on it.


The locals alleged that around a year ago, Joy Singh Barman had bought a government irrigation land from Vijay Barman, a resident of the Porajhar area, for one lakh rupees. They further stated that Joy recently commenced construction work on the said piece of land and also forcibly occupied the embankment of the Mahananda river.

Based on the complaints, the NJP police detained Barman on Wednesday and are further investigating the matter.
