Siliguri Civic Volunteer’s stolen jewellery found hidden in teddy bear, one arrested

Siliguri, 09th December: Matigara Police Station successfully recovered gold and silver jewellery stolen from a civic volunteer couple’s house, finding it hidden inside a teddy bear. The accused, Deepak Das, has been arrested in connection with the case.


As per reports, Rekha Gupta and Bappi Sah, residents of Beldangi and civic volunteers with Siliguri Metropolitan Police, left for duty on Sunday morning, leaving their house unoccupied. Seizing the opportunity, the thief broke in and fled with jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. Upon returning home, the couple discovered their door broken and belongings scattered. They immediately reported the theft to Matigara Police Station.

Acting swiftly, the police began an investigation with the help of CCTV footage, identifying and apprehending Deepak Das within hours. Upon interrogation, the stolen jewellery was recovered, cleverly concealed inside a teddy bear.


Police revealed that Deepak Das is a habitual offender who was recently released on bail. He was presented in Siliguri court on Monday as investigations into the case continue.
