Shocking double death in Siliguri: Wife found in river, husband in nearby forest

Siliguri, 16th November: A mysterious double death has sent shockwaves through Siliguri. On Sunday morning, the body of Anima Barman was recovered from the Sahu River near Ashighar More. A short distance away, her husband Tapan Barman was found hanging from a tree in a nearby forest.

Reportedly, the couple lived in the Bholanath Para area. Anima worked at a local factory, while Tapan was a mason. On Saturday evening around 6 p.m., Tapan went to pick up his wife from the factory, after which both went missing. Their family searched for them that night. On Sunday morning, their bicycle was found near Tharughat, and locals then discovered their bodies.

Anima’s body showed signs of a throat injury. The family stated there were no known disputes or tensions in the household. However, many suspect the incident may involve the wife being killed followed by the husband’s suicide. The bodies were taken to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) by police from Ashighar Outpost.
