Scrub typhus infection in children reported in Darjeeling district and Jalpaiguri

Siliguri, 15th September: Several children of Darjeeling district and Jalpaiguri have been infected with scrub typhus and dengue. Many have been admitted to the hospital.


In the meantime, samples of 65 children from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital have been sent to Kolkata for testing. Among them, several are residents of Jalpaiguri.

Dr Indrajit Saha, principal of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, said that six children in the Darjeeling district have been infected with scrub typhus. Besides, 6 have also been infected with dengue. One of the children from Jalpaiguri admitted to NBMCH was diagnosed with dengue and another with Japanese encephalitis.


He further said that if a child is infected with scrub typhus, there is nothing much to worry about. Medications will help them recover in a short time.
