Alipurduar, 18th May: In a major breakthrough, the police seized a substantial amount of sal wood illegally being transported in a truck from Kumargram to Barobisha under Alipurduar district.
Reportedly, the smugglers stumble upon a police van that was patrolling on Kumargram road. They drove the truck at high speed and tried to flee away from the scene. However, due to their ill luck, the front wheel of the moving truck suddenly detached and the vehicle crashed near Bhalka range in Barobisha Battala.
The smugglers fled away leaving behind the truck. Later, with help of Barobisha Outpost police, the forest workers seized Sal wood worth about Rs 75 lakhs from the vehicle.
