Jalpaiguri, 11th February: A Trinamool Congress leader, identified as Lutfur Rahman, died in a road accident in Jalpaiguri on Tuesday night. Rahman was the block president of the Trinamool Congress Jalpaiguri Minority Cell. His daughter was seriously injured in the accident.
According to reports, Rahman was returning home on a bike with his daughter when a speeding container hit them from behind near Goshala More on the national highway. The container dragged the bike some distance, leaving Rahman and his daughter critically injured. They were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared Rahman dead. His daughter is currently receiving treatment at Jalpaiguri Super Speciality Hospital.
The incident sparked widespread anger in the area. Residents blocked the national highway in protest and vandalized police vehicles.
Additional police forces were deployed to control the situation, and order was eventually restored. The police have launched an investigation into the accident.
