Siliguri, 06th April: A tragic road mishap surfaced where a retired police officer Panchalal Lama Tamang suffered significant injuries after being hit by a speeding Tata Magic cab in Siliguri. The police have arrested the cab driver, identified as Bura Roy from Uttar Dinajpur who resided in Siliguri for work.
The injured retired police officer is currently undergoing treatment at a nursing home located in the area under the jurisdiction of the Pradhan Nagar police station.
According to police sources, Panchalal Lama Tamang retired from the rank of Sub Inspector. On Saturday evening, he was returning home from Milan More towards Nivedita Road when the speeding Tata Magic cab hit him, leading him to suffer severe injuries. After the incident, the locals rescued the injured and admitted him to the nursing home. Additionally, the enraged locals vandalized the Tata Magic cab after the incident.
Upon learning of the incident, the police from Pradhan Nagar Police Station reached the scene and restored order. The vehicle was taken into custody and the accused driver was arrested in connection to the case. On Saturday, the accused was presented in the Siliguri court while the police are investigating the entire case.
