Siliguri, 08th May: Residents of Anand Pally 19/53, a subdivision of Dakshin Shantinagar area in the Dabgram-Fulbari assembly, have expressed their demand for accessible drinking water from the administration. Despite having tap connections in their homes, the absence of running water has caused immense distress among the residents.
According to reports, drinking water pipelines have been installed in various areas under the Dabgram-Fulbari Assembly over the past two years. While some areas receive adequate drinking water supply, approximately 110 houses in the Dakshin Shantinagar area continue to face water scarcity. Local residents claim that despite repeated complaints, no solution has been provided. Consequently, they are forced to purchase drinking water, especially during the summer when even wells dry up. Frustrated by the situation, the residents have taken to the streets, demanding access to drinking water.
In a phone conversation, Shikha Chatterjee, the MLA of Dabgram-Fulbari, acknowledged the water scarcity issue not only in Dakshin Shantinagar but throughout the area, including Chayan Para. She questioned the absence of a water reservoir and pointed out that the Central Government has allocated funds for water supply. Chatterjee further criticized the local Panchayat Pradhan for their alleged lack of action. On the other hand, Sudha Singh Chatterjee, the Pradhan of Dabgram-2, mentioned that letters have been sent from every Panchayat and Circle to the P.H.E. Department. She assured that based on government regulations, every household will receive water by the year 2024.
