Rajganj, 12th November: Residents protested by blocking the road in Subhash Pally area from Rajganj Post Office to Chaulhati and then Bholapara demanding the repair of about eight and a half kilometre road.
Reportedly, thousands of people travel daily through the said area. It has been alleged that despite the poor condition of the road for almost five years, no initiative has been taken so far on behalf of the administration.
Meanwhile, on receiving the news of the protest, Rajganj Joint BDO and Rajganj police reached the spot. After blocking the road for a long time, the protest was eventually removed after the administration assured to start the road repair work within a week. On the other hand, the residents said that they have been hearing assurance for many years but no work has been initiated to date. Apart from the accident, pedestrians also face inconvenience plying on the road, the locals further alleged. They added that roadside houses get covered with dust.
Speaking in this regard, the Pradhan of Sukhani Gram Panchayat Sampa Dutta said that the road is lying dilapidated for about five years. Despite being tendered several times for repairs, the work kept getting cancelled due to various reasons. Dutta added that it will be repaired before the elections.
