Alipurduar, 09th November: Residents and students of the Chikliguri area came to the streets to protest in demand for a concrete bridge. The protesters blocked the road demanding their need for a pucca bridge to be constructed at the earliest.
Today, the residents of Chikliguri area are facing tribulations as they have to cross the Raidak River through a makeshift bamboo bridge risking their lives every day. The protesters blocked the Bhatibari-Kamakhyaguri road and students also staged a sit-in protest holding placards stating their demands.
Reportedly, the residents have been demanding a concrete bridge for almost 20-25 years but the authorities have turned deaf ear to their demands. It is difficult to ply through the bamboo bridge as students of the area face difficulties in commuting daily and also for the patients to travel through the bridge, the only route. They further warned to boycott the elections and join protests in the coming days if their demands are not met.
