Bagdogra, 16th September: Tension gripped following the installation of pillars for safety on both sides of railway tracks in the Pramod Nagar area of Bagdogra.
As per reports, on Friday, under the initiative of Railways, pillars were installed on both sides of the railway line at the railway crossing entrance of the said area. Following this, two-wheelers were operating, however, four-wheelers were halted. Regarding this, the locals expressed their displeasure.
Meanwhile, a crowd of local people gathered this morning, as speculations of the closure of the railway line arose. Following this, Railway police along with cops of Bagdogra police station arrived at the scene. Subsequently, miking was also done on behalf of the Railways.
The locals claimed that they were struggling with this issue for a prolonged period for which an alternative road should be built. Manoj Ojha, a local, stated that the problem existed since 2012 and a letter was submitted to the railways on behalf of the locals. He added that, if both sides of the railway line are closed by erecting pillars, there would be inconvenience for thousands of commuters. Furthermore, he suggested constructing a flyover or an underpass to permanently resolve the issue.
Later, in support of the aforementioned issue and demands the local residents submitted a memorandum to Darjeeling MP Raju Bista.
