Rally to be held in Siliguri demanding inclusion of 11 left out Gorkha sub-communities in ST list 

Siliguri, 06th February: The demand for inclusion of the 11 left out Gorkha sub-communities in the Scheduled Tribe list is heating up once again ahead of the Bengal assembly polls. A rally is being organized on Sunday in this regard. 


The said rally will be taken out from Mallaguri tomorrow by the United Indigenous Gorkha Community. The rally will be attended by people from various Gorkha communities of the hills and Dooars. The 11 left out Gorkha sub-communities in the Scheduled Tribe list are Bhujel, Gurung, Mangar, Newar, Jogi, Khas, Rai, Sunuwar, Thami, Yakkha and Dhimal.

Addressing a press conference today, Ashok Gurung on behalf of the organization said that earlier the said demand was raised in Parliament, but no action was taken. He further maintained that the Darjeeling MP Raju Bista was also approached regarding the issue and that the MP assured to speak on the topic in Parliament during the budget session. However, the organization feels that this issue has not yet been taken seriously. 


In view of this, United Indigenous Gorkha Community will rally in Siliguri tomorrow to draw the government’s attention to their demands.
