Rajganj, 22nd October: Rajganj farmer Krishna Sarkar, from Patharghata village in the Majhiali Gram Panchayat, has opted for rubber farming in an attempt to achieve self-sufficiency. The farmer has planted rubber trees with nearly 10 bighas of tea garden land and is producing rubber from them.
Reportedly, traditional crops like rice and jute have not been profitable, prompting Krishna to explore alternative agricultural methods. Krishna and his brothers previously relied on conventional farming. However, continuous losses led them to seek new opportunities. With the help of government training programs, Krishna has been cultivating rubber trees among their tea gardens for the past few years.
He extracts latex from the trees and transforms it into rubber. Significantly, his manufactured rubber is now being shipped to Assam. This shift to rubber farming has started to yield some profit for Krishna and his family.
