Rajganj’s Lamba Bala tea garden shut down following labourers’ protest

Rajganj, 24th December: The Lamba Bala tea garden in Rajganj is closed due to the movement staged by the labourers in support of various demands including bonus and arrears.

Around 50 workers work in Rajganj’s Lambabala tea garden. After the continuous closure of the garden since October 23, it reopened on December 13 and closed once again on December 18.

Mahan Kerkatta, secretary of the tea garden workers’ union, said that the labourers are deprived of bonuses and some permanent workers are also deprived of arrears. Local panchayat member Bidhan Roy also made similar complaints.

However, according to the garden authorities, the workers frequently shut down the tea garden demanding several requests. Although the bonuses were granted on December 21, the workers did not accept them. They further claimed that if the labourers work properly, the arrears will be paid. But the garden has been severely damaged due to the carelessness of the labourers.
