Rajganj, 28th October: A group of youths from Rajganj has submitted a memorandum to the Block Health Officer, advocating for the establishment of a blood storage center in Rajganj.
For several months, there has been a pressing demand for a blood storage unit at the Rajganj Rural Hospital. Local youths initiated a public signature campaign, and on Monday, they presented the signed demand to the Block Health Officer.
Currently, when patients require blood, they must rush to various blood banks in Siliguri or Jalpaiguri, often returning empty-handed. This situation jeopardizes patients’ lives and, in some instances, leads to fatalities. Consequently, residents of Rajganj have come together to collect signatures to support their request for a blood storage center.
Tanmoy Modak, a civic volunteer by profession, highlighted that there is no blood bank available in the Rajganj block between the cities of Siliguri and Jalpaiguri. He emphasized that if a patient needs blood, they must visit multiple blood banks, frequently without success. He stressed the necessity of a blood storage center at Rajganj Rural Hospital, noting that it would greatly benefit the local community.
Block Health Officer Dr. Rahul Roy acknowledged that while Rajganj Rural Hospital offers nearly all types of medical services, it currently lacks a blood storage unit. In emergencies, blood must be sent from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH). Dr. Roy assured that the demand for a blood storage unit at Rajganj Rural Hospital would be reported to higher authorities for consideration.
