Rajganj, 10th September: The main accused in the Rajganj rape case was arrested by the Ambari outpost police. The arrested accused has been identified as Shankar Mandal (26).
Reportedly, Shankar Mandal sexually exploited the 16-year-old minor multiple times on the pretext of marriage following which she became pregnant. Allegedly, whenever the minor brought up the topic of their marriage, Shankar Mandal used to disregard the conversation and postpone the marriage by making various excuses. The victim’s family said that when the minor was home alone, the accused brought one of his friends, Raja Haldar, to Ambari area and the duo raped the girl.
After this, a complaint was lodged on behalf of the family at the police station. Based on the complaint, the police arrested Raja Haldar, while Shankar still remained at large.
After launching an intense search for the prime accused, the police finally got hold of Shankar Mandal from the Haricharanvita area. He was sent to Jalpaiguri court today. On the other hand, Raja Haldar is in custody for 14 days. Police are investigating the whole incident.
