Rains cause contamination in Fulbari reservoir, SMC asserts to resolve issue

Siliguri, 20th July: Recent heavy rains have taken a toll on the regions of Bhutan, Siliguri, and the hills, resulting in several issues, including the contamination of the Fulbari reservoir. The torrential downpours have caused sand and trash to seep into the reservoir, posing difficulties in filtering the drinking water supply.

The scarcity of safe drinking water has been an ongoing concern in Siliguri, and in certain areas of the city, the provision of proper drinking water supply has been disrupted for several days. This has sparked a heated debate between the ruling party and the opposition regarding the management of the drinking water situation.

Shankar Ghosh, the BJP MLA of Siliguri, raised his voice against the lack of clean drinking water, expressing the urgent need for remedial measures. On the other hand, Leftist councilors approached the Municipal Commissioner, demanding prompt resolution to the water issue.

In response to the situation, SMC Deputy Mayor, Ranjan Sarkar, assured the public that they are fully prepared to implement a sustainable solution to the drinking water problem.
