Siliguri, 11th January: The names of various places of Siliguri have been changed, recently, by the Municipal Corporation. Various places are now being called ‘Chowk’ rather than ‘More’. Among them is Air View More, which has now been changed to Mahatma Gandhi Chowk. Meanwhile, Sevoke More has also been changed to Gurunanak Chowk. Similarly, the names of many places in Siliguri have been changed, due to which, many people have raised objections.
On Saturday, the members of the Jai Bangla organization protested against the incident in the Municipal Corporation and also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Mayor Rambhajan Mahato. Many people have demanded that the ‘Chowk’ be changed to ‘More’. The members of the organization stated that if their demands are not met, then, they will stage a greater agitation.
