Rajganj, 09th January: Tension prevailed in Ambari after the members of Pramila Vahini called for the shutdown of a licensed foreign liquor store located in the Gokulbhita village, adjacent to Anchal More.
According to reports, the liquor store was vandalized while the store’s alcohol was discarded. Following this, the store was shuttered and locked as a part of the protest. Meanwhile, the police of the Ambari outpost arrived on the scene and put an end to the unrest.
In this regard, the protestors alleged that the establishment of a liquor store in the area might hinder the safety of the women commuting from that area after evening. Compounding the issue, the alcohol purchased from the store might result in the escalation of family strife in the neighbourhood and eventually harm the children. In efforts to prevent such a predicament, the women of Pramila Vahini called for the protest demanding its permanent shutdown.
On the other hand, the liquor store manager, Jai Dubey emphasized that the liquor store was government-licensed and was opened the previous day. He added that, despite legal licensing, the women protestors demonstrated and vandalized the store.
